Footwear Design and Development Institute or FDDI Kolkata was established in 2010 by the FDDI fraternity in India. It is a government institute of national importance established under the FDDI Act of 2017. FDDI Kolkata offers three courses at the undergraduate level in Bachelor of Design or B.Des. The courses are B. Des in Footwear Design & Production, B.Des in Leather Goods & Accessories Design, B.Des in Fashion Design. FDDI Kolkata courses are offered for four years and are divided into eight semesters.
FDDI Kolkata admissions require students to qualify for AIST or national-level entrance examinations such as UCEED. Once the student qualifies the examination, he or she will have to undergo the counselling process conducted by the institute. FDDI Kolkata placements achieve an 89% success rate in 2023. The top recruiter at FDDI placements was Bata, Sketchers, Marks & Spencer, Amazon, Adidas, Da Milano, Puna, Carlton, Tata International, Woodland, Sabyasachi, Tommy Hilfiger, Reliance Retail Ltd, Westside, Pidilite, Future Group, and Relaxo among others.
FDDI Kolkata has various collaborations at international and national levels. Some of these are with Centro Tecnologico de Calcado de (CTCP), Portugal. Education Consultant of India Ltd., (EDCIL) and Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). Twos students from FDDI have represented India in Asia World Model United Nations 2019.

FDDI Kolkata admissions have started, the application form has been released and students can fill out the application online. The FDDI Kolkata admission process will follow a centralised admission process along with the other campuses of FDDI. The entrance exam needed for admission is AIST or UCEED or any other national-level entrance exam. After the AIST is conducted, students who have qualified for the exam will have to register themselves for the counselling process to secure FDDI Kolkata admissions.

FDDI Kolkata placements were quite good for the 2023 outgoing batch. The success rate was 89%. Several top organisations visited the campus to recruit students from the institute. FDDI Kolkata placement process incorporates all aspects from training the students for placements to getting the placed. Students are given corporate training, mock interviews, grooming, and personality development sessions to help them prepare for the FDDI Kolkata placements.
